Services

Following the initial visit, your child will be seen on a very regular basis (every 3 – 6 months based on need). Once there are teeth in the mouth, at the appropriate time intervals your child will receive fluoride treatments, sealants, periodic exams and of course, the dental cleaning with one of our enthusiastic, caring and experienced hygienists.
As your child grows and develops, dental care recommendations will be adjusted accordingly. Here’s a great link from the American Dental Association about a school aged child’s age-appropriate healthy dental habits
Early Care & Prevention
At St Apollonia Dental Clinic, we believe that PREVENTION of disease is KEY to achieving optimal health. Preventive measures should begin as early as possible in the lifespan, which means we want to begin caring for your child as soon as they have their first tooth or by no later than their first birthday.

Why so early? As soon as your baby has teeth, s/he can get cavities. Being proactive about your child’s dental health today can help keep his or her smile healthy for life.

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, tooth decay can be very costly and yet is 100% preventable. As a parent and caregiver, you can take simple steps today to ensure your child is set up for a lifetime of healthy habits.

Here are some steps you can take now:

Create a Dental Home by Age One

Starting regular oral care at a young age will lead to healthy oral health habits for life, so take your child to a dentist by age one, or at the sign of his or her first tooth.

Brush Together

Brushing habits make an impact as kids get older when they choose to implement the habits they learned from mom, dad or their caregiver. Make sure you brush with your child for two minutes, twice a day.

Choose Healthy Foods and Drink Fluoridated (Tap) Water:

How much sugar your child eats and drinks throughout the day is a big factor in causing tooth decay. Choose healthy snacks and avoid sipping sugary juices all day long. Stick to designated meal times with water in between and limit snacking to no more than three times a day.

Treatment
Even in the best of circumstances, there will be times when the most common childhood disease, dental decay, may affect your child. If this is the case, we are prepared to present treatment options and to provide the best possible treatment for your child. This may include a tooth filling of composite or other material, a silver cap for the tooth, treatment of the tooth pulp (or nerve) if necessary and in cases of extraction, a space maintainer may be recommended. A wide array of dental treatment is provided at St Apollonia Dental Clinic.

Whatever the case, your child’s dentist will discuss treatment options with you and develop a unique treatment plan for your child. Please know that questions are OK! We want to hear your questions and concerns at each step of the treatment process.

If a patient is hesitant or anxious about their visit, your dentist will discuss the option of laughing gas (nitrous oxide) to be used as inhalation sedation to help relax and calm your child during their visit.
